Full Definition

Direct contracting is an arrangement in which a self-funded employer negotiates directly with hospitals, physician groups, or health systems for defined services at agreed-upon rates — bypassing traditional carrier networks and their associated fees. Direct contracts can achieve significant savings on high-volume, predictable services and give employers access to quality and outcomes data not available through traditional networks.
