Full Definition

Direct Primary Care is a practice model in which patients pay a flat monthly membership fee directly to a primary care physician for unlimited access to primary care services. DPC practices do not bill insurance, which eliminates administrative overhead and allows physicians to spend more time with patients. Employers increasingly pair DPC with a high-deductible health plan to reduce total healthcare costs while improving primary care access.
