Full Definition

Centers of Excellence are healthcare facilities that meet rigorous quality and outcomes standards for specific high-cost procedures — typically spine surgery, joint replacement, cardiac care, cancer treatment, and bariatric surgery. Employers direct members to COEs through plan design incentives (waived deductibles, travel benefits) to improve outcomes and reduce total cost of care.
