Full Definition

PEPM (per employee per month) is the standard metric for comparing health plan costs across employers of different sizes. It is calculated by dividing total plan costs (claims, stop-loss premiums, administrative fees) by the number of covered employees and the number of months. PEPM is the most useful single benchmarking metric because it normalizes for company size and plan year length.
