ICHRA Feasibility & Affordability — Benefits Intelligence

ICHRA Feasibility & Affordability

Screen ICHRA feasibility and run a preliminary ACA affordability calculation for your employee class.

Created by Corry Hull, REBC®, CSFS® for Employer Benefits IQ.

1.How clearly defined are your employee classes for ICHRA purposes, and have you reviewed minimum class-size rules where applicable?

ICHRA requires distinct employee classes. Minimum class-size rules apply when offering ICHRA to some classes and group coverage to others.

2.How thoroughly have you modeled ICHRA affordability using location-specific marketplace data for each employee class?

ICHRA affordability is tested employee-by-employee using the lowest-cost Silver plan in each employee's rating area.

3.How well have you assessed provider, drug, and plan disruption for employees transitioning from group coverage to ICHRA?

Employees may lose access to current providers and medications when moving to individual market coverage.

4.How well do you understand and comply with ICHRA notice requirements, including the 90-day advance notice rule?

Employers must provide written notice at least 90 days before the start of the plan year.

5.How well do you support employees in navigating the individual marketplace, including broker assistance and premium tax credit coordination?

Employees offered an affordable ICHRA are not eligible for premium tax credits. Navigation support is critical.
