Full Definition

The Transparency in Coverage rule (effective 2022) requires most employer health plans to publish machine-readable files (MRFs) containing in-network negotiated rates, out-of-network allowed amounts, and prescription drug pricing. Plans must also provide a member-facing cost estimation tool for 500+ shoppable services. The rule is intended to enable price comparison and market competition in healthcare.
