Full Definition

The aggregate attachment point is the total dollar amount of claims a self-funded employer must pay in a plan year before aggregate stop-loss coverage begins. It is typically set at 115–125% of expected (projected) claims. The attachment point is calculated as: expected claims × attachment factor. A lower attachment factor provides more protection but costs more in stop-loss premium.
