The Wellbeing Strategy Framework
- 1Assess: Understand your workforce's health profile through claims data, HRAs, and biometric screening
- 2Prioritize: Identify the top 3–5 health risks that are driving the most cost and productivity loss
- 3Design: Select evidence-based programs that address the prioritized health risks
- 4Implement: Deploy programs with strong communication and engagement strategies
- 5Measure: Track outcomes against defined metrics and benchmarks
- 6Refine: Use outcome data to improve programs and reallocate resources
The Three Pillars of Wellbeing
Effective wellbeing strategies address three pillars: clinical programs (disease management, preventive care), behavioral programs (wellness incentives, health coaching), and environmental changes (healthy food options, walking paths, flexible work). Programs that address only one pillar are less effective than those that address all three.
Leadership Commitment
IQ Insight
The single most important predictor of wellbeing program success is leadership commitment. Programs that are championed by the CEO and senior leadership team consistently outperform those that are managed solely by HR. When the CEO participates in the wellness challenge, talks about mental health openly, and makes healthy choices visible, employees follow. Leadership commitment is not optional — it is the foundation.
