Maintaining the Compliance File
Maintain an organized compliance file that contains all plan documents, required notices, and compliance records. Review and update the compliance file annually.
Response Timeframes
Compliance Note
DOL audit requests typically specify a response timeframe — often 30 days. Responding within the specified timeframe demonstrates good-faith compliance. If you need additional time, contact the DOL investigator promptly and request an extension. Failing to respond within the specified timeframe can result in subpoenas and escalated enforcement action.
